Capsule Endoscopy

Helps make GI diagnosis easy on your patients.
PillCam® capsule endoscopy does what traditional endoscopy can't.

FDA-approved in 2001, capsule endoscopy is a powerful tool for the evaluation of the entire small intestine and detection of small-bowel abnormalities. Capsule endoscopy is useful for evaluating gastrointestinal bleeding, anemia and unexplained abdominal pain. It also helps diagnose small-bowel arteriovenous malformations, tumors, medication injuries, Crohn's disease and celiac sprue.

An effective & reliable diagnostic tool.

Simply put, capsule endoscopy is a pill-sized camera and light source that patients swallow. Traversing the GI tract while the patient goes about his or her life, the capsule captures and transmits thousands of images - two each second - of a quality comparable to traditional endoscopy. In just six hours, capsule endoscopy is able to image the entire small bowel.

In fact, it has been proven to be the most sensitive method for detecting small-bowel lesions.

Noninvasive, safe & painless.

In addition to its diagnostic usefulness, capsule endoscopy is much less invasive than traditional endoscopy. In fact, it's as noninvasive as swallowing a pill. It is patient-friendly and causes no pain or discomfort. It also requires no sedation, surgery or procedure, and preparation is minimal, usually consisting of dietary changes only. Today, capsule endoscopy has been used on more than a million patients and has been shown to have an exceptional safety record.
