For the convenience and care of our patients, we offer Diagnostic Ultrasound and Elastography testing.
Our Ultrasound Technologist, Diana Ruthardt, is a graduate of an Accredited School of Ultrasound. Diana is certified and registered in the practice of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound. She brings over 25 years of experience to our practice.
Our attention to detail in ultrasound imaging is unsurpassed due to our technician working directly with our GI providers, ordering gastroenterologist, or physician assistant, on site. Any questions or concerns that she may have, pertinent to ultrasound testing, may be readily addressed with the ordering GI Doctor or Physician Assistant. As a result, a more comprehensive GI clinical analysis can be obtained.
Our GI ultrasound center is fully accredited by the American College or Radiology. We're proud to report that our ultrasound services meet the stringent standards of the ACR.
In January of 2020, SWGI introduced a new ultrasound-based test called Shear Wave Elastography. This is a roughly 10-15 minute painless ultrasound procedure that allows for the detection of liver scarring (fibrosis). Most liver diseases, like fatty liver, hepatitis C, alcoholic liver disease, and hemochromatosis, can lead to significant liver scarring. The most severe form of liver scarring is cirrhosis, which is a leading cause of death around the world. It can be very difficult to determine by examining a patient or by checking a patient’s blood work whether this process of scarring is ongoing. Elastography is an exciting new way to assess for liver scarring (fibrosis), and we are one of the first private practices in our region to offer this test.
